AA Nafaka Store, a Tanzanian agro-processing company, has recently benefited from funding through the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF), an initiative that supports small and medium-sized businesses across Africa. This funding is a significant milestone for AA Nafaka as it strengthens the company’s capacity to scale up operations, especially in expanding its direct sourcing model with smallholder farmers. The investment helps increase local production, particularly in sunflower and maize, by enabling AA Nafaka to invest in agricultural inputs, training, and improved storage facilities.

With USADF’s support, AA Nafaka is poised to make substantial strides in its mission to reduce reliance on imported sunflower oil, while simultaneously boosting the incomes and productivity of smallholder farmers, most of whom are women. This financial backing is helping the company implement a comprehensive business plan that not only aims to expand its production capacity but also to foster more inclusive agricultural supply chains. As part of the strategy, AA Nafaka plans to significantly increase its procurement of locally grown crops, with a projected rise in maize procurement from 650 MT to 4,000 MT by 2026.

The USADF’s focus on inclusive business practices aligns perfectly with AA Nafaka’s commitment to supporting sustainable farming practices and strengthening local economies. The partnership marks a pivotal moment in the company’s journey to becoming a key player in Tanzania’s food processing industry, contributing to both economic development and food security in the region
